Biosciences Building

University of Nottingham

Adding to the diverse range of university projects we have completed, the Biosciences Building at the University of Nottingham is modern and high-tech.

Our render-only solution has been used in the construction of the new Biosciences/School of Veterinary Medicine and Science Building at the University of Nottingham. The Flexewall Lite system was specified by MAKE architects and uses mineral products including Alsitect Top Coat and Armatop A.

We worked closely with MAKE architects and project contractor, Repex, to put together a completely mineral system. A key part of the specification was to adhere to the carbon emission expectations for the building and Flexewall Lite ensured this detail was met.

We were delighted to be involved in this innovative and forward-thinking project. The Flexewall Lite system was the ideal choice to assist in meeting the green requirements of the project.

The Biosciences Building has achieved a BREEAM “excellent” rating and incorporates straw bale construction in the external cladding of the building. The building has been positioned to minimise solar gain and interact with its surroundings. The façade design takes its inspiration from the natural rhythm of the tree line adjacent to the site and is the first stage of a 20-year master plan for the campus, which aims to enhance its reputation as a primary destination for the study of plant and animal science.

The Flexewall offers many benefits, including a range of anticrack render systems, high resistance to mechanical stress, and a highly water-repellent lightweight surface. It is ideally suited to frame construction and can be used with a wide range of finishes.
