Airtec stone and glass come together for a
sleek and modern finish at Farringdon Station
with this prestigious project.
alsecco Airtec lightweight ventilated rain-screen cladding was
specified by Atkins for the major redevelopment of Farringdon
Station as part of the north-south Thameslink Programme.
Covering 3000m2, both Airtec stone and Airtec glass have been
utilised on the project. They were chosen for the fact that the
systems are completely compatible, with both systems being
used on the interior façades as well.
The lightweight natural Airtec stone panels covered 2600m2 and
were up to 3 metres in size, with beige-coloured Jura Limestone
being used on the finish. For the Airtec glass, 400m2 of this was
installed using white glass, again with the panels reaching 3m in
height. The panels form part of the exterior fascia of the station,
whilst also being used extensively through the ticket hall area
and extending down the stairs onto the platform areas too.
This part of Farringdon Station was designed to create a feeling of light and space and the use of Airtec stone and glass has achieved that to great effect. It was also important to be able to combine the two finishes seamlessly, which the Airtec system provides.
Chosen for the project by architects Atkins, it was the ideal
combination of stone and glass. With its exacting tolerances
and sophisticated finish, the Airtec choices have provided a
great effect for this historic station.
